FREEBSD & LINUX DESKTOPS
FreeBSD and Linux desktop machines are still in their infancy and as such can sometimes provide a strange new interface for users. Things are changing though and todays unix desktops are begining to provide user interfaces with more recognisable features, through systems like KDE and Gnome.
Once you have the basic desktop machine there are several great packages for business use, the most important being Open Office which provides a word processor, spreadsheet, drawing and presentation package and HTML editors which are compatible with better known commercial offerings. Open Office is of course free to download from the internet.
For sending and getting your email and browsing the web there is the Mozilla package (Firefox for web browsing and Thunderbird for email) or the fabulous Opera browser, again all free to download and far safer to use on the net than Outlook or Internet Explorer (Open Office, Mozilla and Opera are all available for Windows as well - highly recommended).
